War

In April 2 of 1982 Argentina, under a dictatorship which lacked on popularity, reocupied the Malvinas in order to negociate its claimed sovereingty.

The british Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, was also facing a huge lack of popularity since her administration destroyed more factories in Britain than those which were destroyed in WW2 and affected the working class among other issues, it was the worst stage of her political carreer and she was classified, at that moment, as Britain's most unpopular prime minister. This conflict with Argentina was the perfect oportunity to save her political carreer by diverting the public opinion by turning this conflict into a unavoidable war.

In order to turn this conflict into a war, she needed something more relevant than a simple occupation, it had been already one month since the Argentine occupation and there weren't any british death to make the "british audience" go angry.

As soon as Peru sent the Peruvian Peace Proposals to encourage both nations to solve this conflict, she knew that the possibilities to be reelected by turning the conflict into a war would start shrinking.

At that very moment, she ordered the sinking of the Belgrano, a ship which was being shadowed by the nuclear powered submarine HMS Conqueror approximately 30 hours before its sinking.

The Belgrano was sailing away from the Malvinas at the moment of its sinking, a sinking which was ordered without the previous existence of a Declaration of War, a fact which constituted a crime.

Years later, the relatives of those who died in the Belgrano filled a lawsuit against Thatcher in the European Court of Human Rights and the only reason why it was rejected was because the lawsuit had been filled too late. Otherwise she would have been judged. (had the relatives of the victims of the Belgrano sued Thatcher in Britain, possibly, justice would have been done).

What a coincidence!

Isn't it? That the sinking of the Belgrano was ordered 14 hours after the Peruvian Peace Proposals were sent?
Just take a look at Thatcher's face when Diana Gould asks her about the sinking.

If you look at the video, you will notice she says:

"That ship was a danger to our boys"
When the Belgrano was actually sailing away.

"The job of a prime minister is to protect the life of our boys..."
(The sinking of the Belgrano, appart from turning this conflict into a unavoidable war, triggered the Argentine Air Force to strike back, sinking numeros british ships rather than protecting her boys.

The Malvinas

The sovereignty of the Malvinas has been a subject of discusion in many topics around the world.

Argentina declared independance from Spain in 1816 and designated a militar governor, Luis Vernet, who was forced to leave the islands along with his settlers in 1830.

The Malvinas are about 7.000 km away from the UK and are administrated by the latter due the islanders' will, nevertheless, most of the current islanders are the result of a colonial enclave who will never accept Argentina's right on those islands.

The people living in those islands are british but those islands should belong to Argentina and the only reason why they are administrated by the UK is because of force.
